Local vs. importado

Locally produced seasonal watercress may reach consumers faster, reducing long storage and spoilage. Distance alone does not determine total impact because production energy, water management, packaging, refrigeration, transport mode, and discarded food also matter. Imported watercress transported by air may carry a greater footprint than regional produce moved by road, while energy-intensive indoor local production may offset some transportation advantages.
